AWANA at First Baptist Begins September 4, 2024

Wednesdays @ Downtown Campus

6:15 - 7:30 pm

What Is AWANA?

(Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed)

AWANA is a global, nonprofit ministry committed to the belief that the greatest impact for Christ starts with kids who know, love and serve Him.

How does AWANA fulfill this mission? Through God’s guidance and power, AWANA strives to: Reach Kids ...

Kids represent the greatest opportunity to make a long-term impact on our world for Christ. Offered through local churches, community groups and homes, AWANA reaches kids where they’re at and walks alongside them in their faith journey. Those kids who come to faith at an early age discover God’s purpose for their lives and hope for the future. Ministry leaders and parents witness the profound impact Awana has in reaching kids with the gospel and watching them grow as long-term disciples. That’s why so many families and leaders have returned year after year, week after week, for more than three generations.

Why AWANA?

Research shows the likelihood of a child accepting Jesus Christ as Savior is highest before age 14. Because we know it is children who are more likely to accept Jesus, we must be diligent about reaching them. The transition we will go through in the next couple of years will be challenging, but we must remain steadfast in our mission to teach our children the gospel.

We want to continue growing our ministries through the Awana program as part of our Wednesday night activities for preschool age through sixth grade. The name Awana comes from the first letters of the phrase Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed in 2 Timothy 2:15. Awana is a ministry that helps churches and parents raise children to know, love and serve Christ.

Key Principles

The program embraces 5 key principles: it’s centered on the gospel, scripture memory is a key element, it’s exciting and fun, children are trained to serve and it’s built on volunteer leadership. Awana seeks to come alongside churches to provide the tools that help us in our efforts to disciple kids.

Leadership Team Invitation

John 15:8 says, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” We are created to be fruit bearers and it is our desire and goal to raise our children to do the same. We would like to invite you to join us and be part of the Awana leadership team to reach not just the children here at First Baptist, but in the community as well. Please contact the church office if you are interested in volunteering. Contact Chris Giddens for more information!
